This stunning viewpoint offers sweeping cliff views all the way to Ponta de São Lourenço, making it a must-stop on your Madeira road trip.

Where is Miradouro da Rocha do Navio

Rocha do Navio Viewpoint is up on Madeira's northern coast in Santana. The easiest way to get there is by car since there aren’t any convenient bus routes from Funchal. Just type “Miradouro da Rocha do Navio” into Google Maps, and you’re good to go! The roads in Santana can get a bit winding as they curve through green valleys and cliffs, but overall, they’re pretty manageable for any driver.

What to do at Miradouro da Rocha do Navio

Rocha do Navio is an awesome stop on a road trip along Madeira’s northern coast. The island is known for its quick, scenic photo spots, and you’ll find plenty along this stretch. This viewpoint gives you epic views with towering cliffs and even a waterfall cascading right into the ocean below. To photograph Rocha do Navio is best to arrive at sunrise to get the best lighting conditions.

There’s also a cable car station right at the viewpoint (Santana Cable Car), which can take you down to the farmland and rocky beach you see from above. Unfortunately, during our last visit in November 2024, the viewpoint was closed with no info on when it might reopen. But you can still reach the beach by hiking a steep trail that starts right from the viewpoint.
