One of Indonesia’s most spectacular gems is Padar Island, nestled within the renowned Komodo National Park. Located between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores, this park consists of three main islands—Rinca, Komodo, and Padar—along with numerous smaller volcanic islets. Padar Island stands out for its dramatic landscapes, panoramic viewpoints, and unmatched natural beauty.

Why Padar Island Is a Must-Visit

Padar Island is famous for its stunning sunrise views and unique topography, featuring rugged hills and bays with contrasting beaches of white, black, and even pink sand. A short 20-minute hike to the island’s summit rewards visitors with an unforgettable 360-degree view of the surrounding turquoise waters and dramatic coastline. It’s one of the most photographed locations in Komodo National Park and an absolute highlight of any trip to the region.

The island is also home to diverse wildlife, including a significant deer population. While Komodo dragons are not found on Padar Island, its pristine beauty and unique features make it a favorite among adventurers and photographers alike.

How to Visit Padar Island in Komodo

Accessing Padar Island is straightforward as part of a Komodo National Park boat tour. Most tours include Padar in their itineraries alongside other iconic spots like Komodo Island, Pink Beach, and Manta Point. Here’s how you can plan your visit:

One-Day Speedboat Tour: Ideal for tight schedules, these tours include multiple stops, including Padar Island, and cost around 600,000–1,200,000 IDR per person ($40–80 USD). The downside is limited time at each location.

Multi-Day Liveaboard Tours: A 2-day, 1-night trip allows for a more relaxed exploration, including sunrise trekking on Padar Island. These tours cost approximately 7,000,000 IDR ($450 USD) for a private boat.

Best Time to Visit Padar Island in Komodo

The best time to visit Komodo National Park is during the dry season, from April to November, when the weather is warm, skies are clear, and seas are calm—ideal for snorkeling, and diving. April to June offers green landscapes and vibrant marine life as the park transitions from the rainy season, while September to November is perfect for spotting manta rays and enjoying excellent underwater visibility. July and August are peak tourist months, with sunny weather but larger crowds and higher prices. The rainy season, from December to March, brings heavy rains and rough seas, making it less ideal for activities, though it offers quieter visits.
